The International Fantastic Film Week of the Costa del Sol celebrates its 25th anniversary and last edition

The emblematic International Fantastic Film Week of the Costa del Sol is preparing for its grand farewell, celebrating its silver jubilee from September 7 to 14, 2024. This festival, which has been a pillar in the Spanish film scene for a quarter of a century, will offer a retrospective of its trajectory in what will be its last edition.

A festival that has left its mark on Spanish fantastic cinema

Stars and tributes at the final edition of the event

The actor and comedian from Malaga, Miguel Ángel Martín, will be the patron of the event, which will be attended by leading figures from the world of cinema and television. The “Unicorn of Honor”, the festival’s highest award, will be given to Claudio Fragasso, Italian screenwriter and cult director of international fantasy-terror.

Other honorees include Álex O’Dogherty, Salva Reina, Elia Galera and José Pastor, thus recognizing national talent. In addition, the television series “Mano de Hierro” will receive special recognition.

Programming for all tastes

The festival will offer a varied selection of films in different categories:

– Official Selection: Ten films will compete for the coveted Unicorn Awards.
– Parallel Section “25 Years of Fantasy”: It will screen classics of the genre such as “Psycho” and “Blade Runner”.
– Family Fantastic: It will include titles such as “Ghostbusters” and “Spiderman: Crossing the Multiverse”.
– 50th Anniversary: It will pay tribute to emblematic films from 1974.

Beyond screenings: a multifaceted festival

Exhibitions and documentaries

The exhibition “25 Years of Fantasia” will review the history of the festival through posters and photographs. In addition, a documentary of the same name, directed by Manuel Vera, will be presented, which narrates the evolution of the event since its beginnings.

Literature and gastronomy

The festival is not limited to cinema. Two books will be presented: “Nos veremos veremos en la cara oculta de la luna”, a compendium of the history of the festival, and “Cine y Salud Mental”. The “XV Jornadas Gastronómicas 2024” will merge cinema and cuisine in a unique experience.
