In Estepona we can boast of a magnificent coastline and miles of beach where you can swim, sunbathe and practice water sports, but ladies and gentlemen! in Estepona, we are also faced with deciding plans depending on the air blowing … That maybe to outsiders, you find it strange, but the good Esteponeros start the morning conversation asking: today is east or west? And if it’s west, it’s usually behind a… but is it loose? Have you seen if the sand rises on the beach? (I warn you that if you ask at 11:45, it is likely that by the time you get to the beach he will be getting up… 12 o’clock is the key time).

All this to tell you that those of us here avoid the natural exfoliation you undergo if you go to the beach in the west. On that day, we will probably look for a swimming pool.

Where can you go to the swimming pool in Estepona? Family and friends.

The first thing to do is to pull swimmingpool-agenda, that is, we will look for all the friends and relatives who live in urbanization with swimming pool, which is becoming more and more frequent in new constructions and in old ones on the outskirts of Estepona, but in the town many blocks lack it.

We also have friends with portable pools in the countryside and with albercas, even if only for soaking. If this step is unsuccessful … here I bring you pool plans of all kinds, to see if you are convinced by any of them.

Estepona Municipal Swimming Pool

Santo Tomás de Aquino Municipal Swimming Pool.

Located in the sports complex of the same name. In 1982, the current swimming pool, two concrete sports courts and basketball courts were built. It also had some garden areas and the changing rooms and offices were built. Subsequently, a tennis court, bar and office building were built. In 2006, the locker rooms were improved and the pavement of the courts was replaced with synthetic rubber.

It is usually open from the end of June to mid-September, from Monday to Friday from 1 to 6 pm, and on weekends and holidays from 11 am to 8 pm. This is due to the fact that swimming courses are held in this pool. 80% of the population of Estepona born since the late 80’s have learned to swim there. Our mothers stood in long lines to sign us up. Now it is still in demand, but the queue is no longer necessary.

It is quite inexpensive and has bonuses for those who decide that sand staining is not their thing.

Cafeteria La Italiana Ice Cream Parlor

Cancelada Municipal Swimming Pool.

With the same opening hours and dates, same prices… you have another option: the Municipal Swimming Pool of Cancelada. On El Paraíso street, the facilities include a swimming pool, a multi-sports court, two paddle tennis courts and a tennis court, as well as a building with changing rooms, an infirmary, a counseling center and a cafeteria with a terrace.

This center has the only outdoor 25-meter sports pool open all year round. The center has the most modern equipment for cleaning and disinfecting water without chlorine.

Kempinski Estepona

Spiler Beach Club: the sophisticated beach club at the Kempinski Bahia.

Although located in the garden of the Kempinski Hotel, it offers lunch and pool packages (three outdoor pools), available from 49€ per person. Including hammock, towel service, welcome water, access to the gym and parking.

If you opt for the premium package, it will cost you 98€ per person, and you will enjoy the same, but add champagne sangria and fruit platter. Minimum for two people.

And now, if you are maximum four and you want more glamour, opt for the Balinese bed for 300€, which includes the same as the basic package but choosing a bottle of Champagne DUVAL, BRUT or Magnum of Cloe Chardonnay D.O. Sierras de Málaga or Magnum of Muga rosé D.O.C. Rioja and fruit plate.

It is a quiet and elegant place, which has a restaurant-bar where you can order from pizza to oysters, through the typical fried fish or burgers.

If you are not thrilled with lots of kids and teenagers splashing around and you can afford it, maybe this plan is closer to that idea of enjoying a day in the sun and a sun lounger.

Trocadero Estepona

Trocadero Estepona.

Located in front of Angel Beach, it was inaugurated in 2019. This Beach club has terraces where you can satisfy your hunger with both land and sea options. Reservation does not include hammock. If you want one, you will have to order it directly by contacting the restaurant.

It offers hammock service, swimming pool with ocean views, cocktail bar and a sushi bar. Ideal for the relaxation you are looking for.

Nido Playa Estepona

Nido Playa Estepona.

A recent and elegant club with boutique beach, located on the nudist beach of Estepona and that brought its controversy … It has an idyllic atmosphere thanks to its fine dining restaurant, bar, pool, solarium and lounge chairs. As for the atmosphere, it is suitable for all audiences, including children. It is a family friendly place where everyone is welcome. Beachfront luxury with prices that let you know it’s so…

I am going to make special mention to a plan that is not in Estepona as such… but in the neighboring town of Casares and it is very close.

Lagoon Alcazaba

Alcazaba Lagoon: the largest artificial lagoon in Europe.

If you want to feel like you are in the Caribbean without leaving Malaga, this is your option. We are facing 1.4 hectares of white sand and crystal clear waters. It is not a swimming pool, but the complement we were missing, an artificial lagoon, where you can swim, paddle surf, canoeing, sailing, kitesurfing or windsurfing.

It also has three enclosed pool areas to make swimming a safe activity and two restaurants. In addition, it also has specific spaces for the exclusive bathing of people in the corners of the lagoon.

Not only do you have water activities, you can also stroll through the 4,000 square meters of exotic gardens surrounding the lake. The lagoon uses ultrasound technology to treat the water in a sustainable way: it uses 100 times less chemical additives and only 2% of the energy used by conventional pool systems to control water quality and ongoing maintenance of the system.

You have to book on their website, maybe making the plan on the fly won’t work out if there is a lot of demand. The cost is 15€ per adult and 5€ per child. The entrance fee includes hammocks for adults, use and enjoyment of nautical services and the services of the lagoon. You can’t enter with food or drink, although I know of brave people who have brought in the tortilla. I think they control it, so I’m afraid it’s really expensive to eat and drink there in their restaurants.

It is open all year round, in low season from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, in mid season from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm and in high season from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm.

Natural pools.

Now, if what you want is to enjoy natural pools, I have to confess, we also have them. We have two of the most valued natural pools in the province of Malaga: Charca de las Nutrias and Las Pozas del Río Padrón. Both are highly recommended accompanied by a hiking route, but I will leave you wanting to know more because soon, we will make a specific post for them, they deserve it.

The swimming pool is not the only recurring plan for the days of poniente, we have many more plans, what do you feel like? We look forward to hearing from you in the comments.
