The coastal town of Estepona is getting ready to celebrate Halloween Night with a big party and a costume contest that promises to turn the Caseta Municipal into a stage of terror and fun. The event combines music, dance and shows for the whole family, with the participation of local talent and prizes for the most original costumes.

An evening of fear and entertainment

The Halloween party, scheduled for Thursday, October 31, 2024, will transform the Caseta Municipal del Parque Ferial, Deportivo y de Ocio Permanente into a realm of supernatural beings and creatures from beyond the grave. From 7:00 p.m. to midnight, attendees will be able to enjoy a carefully created terrifying atmosphere, which will include themed decorations such as pumpkins, skeletons and mummies.

Stellar performances and local master of ceremonies

The event will feature a master of ceremonies who will guide participants through a night full of surprises. Live performances will include:

  • A presentation of a dance academy at 8:00 p.m., with “terrifying” choreographies that will test the spectators’ courage.
  • A musical group that will take the stage at 9:30 pm to liven up the evening with their music.

The dreaded ‘Passage of Terror

One of the highlights of the evening will be the ‘Passage of Terror’, where actors will recreate scary scenes for the bravest. This attraction promises to be an immersive experience that will test the nerves of visitors.

Costume contest with tempting prizes

A costume contest has been organized with categories for all tastes and ages. Prizes, which will be awarded at 9:00 pm, include:

  • 500 euros for the best-characterized group (minimum 5 people)
  • 500 euros for the largest thematic group
  • 200 euros for the most sinister family
  • 100 euros for the scariest character
  • 100 euros for the best characterization

The councilor encouraged citizens to participate with original and creative costumes to create a truly spooky atmosphere.

Gastronomy and solidarity

Throughout the evening, the bar of the municipal stand will be open and managed by a local organization. This initiative will not only allow attendees to enjoy refreshments, but will also support a charitable cause. Halloween Night in Estepona is shaping up to be a must-see event for families and horror lovers alike. With a combination of local entertainment, exciting contests and a festive atmosphere, the town is gearing up for a celebration that promises to be remembered long after the pumpkins have been put out and the costumes put away.

Halloween Estepona 2024

Halloween in Spain

In Spain, Halloween is commonly known as “Día de las Brujas” (Day of the Witches). Although this name is not official, it has become popular due to the association of the holiday with supernatural and magical elements. The date of celebration in Spain, as in the rest of the world, is October 31.

However, it is important to note that this holiday has merged to some extent with the local traditions of All Saints’ Day (November 1) and All Souls’ Day (November 2). As a result, in many parts of Spain, including Estepona, Halloween-related celebrations are spread over these three days.

This fusion of traditions has created a unique holiday period that combines elements of Anglo-Saxon Halloween with more traditional Spanish customs. During these three days, it is common to see a mixture of activities ranging from costume parties and trick-or-treating to cemetery visits and floral offerings to the deceased.

Comparison with other Halloween celebrations

Although Halloween in Estepona has gained popularity, it is interesting to compare it with other celebrations both in Spain and internationally.

The biggest Halloween party in Spain is celebrated in Cadiz, where the “Peccata Minuta” event attracts thousands of costumed people who walk through the streets of the old town.

This celebration has become a national reference, combining the spirit of Halloween with the characteristic Cadiz humor. In terms of popularity, Madrid and Barcelona lead Halloween celebrations in the country, with numerous events in nightclubs, theme parks and shopping malls. However, cities such as Valencia and Seville have also developed their own Halloween traditions in recent years.

Where is the best Halloween in the world?

Internationally, the best Halloween in the world is generally considered to be that of Salem, Massachusetts, due to its rich history linked to the witch trials. On the other hand, cities such as Derry in Northern Ireland and Edinburgh in Scotland also offer unique experiences that combine Celtic tradition with modern celebrations.

Decoration ideas for Halloween

Decoration plays a key role in creating the Halloween atmosphere. Some popular ideas in Estepona include:

  • Illuminated carved pumpkins on balconies and entrances
  • Artificial spider webs on windows and doors
  • Hanging skeletons and ghosts
  • Orange and purple lights to create ambience
  • Paper cut-out bats on walls

A growing trend is the creation of DIY decorations using recycled materials, which adds an eco-friendly touch to the celebration.

Halloween gastronomy in Estepona

Although Halloween has no specific traditional dishes in Spain, in Estepona some culinary customs have been adopted for the occasion:

  • Pumpkin, ghost and witch candies
  • Themed cocktails in bars and restaurants
  • Cakes decorated with Halloween motifs
  • Nuts and roasted chestnuts, mixing the tradition of the Castañada with Halloween.

Some local restaurants offer special menus during these days, fusing Mediterranean cuisine with decorative Halloween elements.
